The Department of State Lotteries started functioning from August 1967 and extraordinary brilliance of late P.K.Kunju Sahab, then Finance Minister gave birth to this idea.
The Late Sayed Mohammed was the first Director of the Department of state lotteries. Formerly he was the Director of Treasuries. All the preliminary actions for the setting up of Department was initiated under his guidance. During 1967,when the Department was formed, it was under the administrative control of the Department of Finance in Government. Later it was brought under the control of Taxes Department.

Finance Department largely perform the function of advising the Government on all Financial matters. The formulation of the Budget is one of its most important functions. Finance department is also entrusted with the responsibility of framing rules regulating pay, emoluments and other service conditions of all Government employees.

In the light of the Industrial Policy 1998 and Information policy 1998 Government of Kerala have issued necessary orders streamlining the State Investment Subsidy Manual. The full text of the revised Manual as per G.O. (MS) No. 92/2000/ID, dated 11/7/2000 is as follows.

1. An investment subsidy of 10% limited to Rs. 5.00 lakhs will be payable on the fixed capital investment; of all industrial units set up in the State except those mentioned in para 6. For the purpose of this scheme an industrial unit eligible for State Investment Subsidy shall be an independent legal entity.

Objectives of the scheme is to encourage Small Scale Units to upgrade the level of technology or to use modern technology to increase productivity/increase quality of product by providing credit capital subsidy.

Scope of the scheme. 

To begin with, the scheme would cover the following products/sub-sectors in the SSI.

The overall objective of the Consumer Welfare Fund is to provide financial assistance to promote and protect the welfare of the consumers and strengthen the Voluntary Consumer movement in the State particularly in the rural areas.

Procedure for applying for financial assistance

The applicant, who is desirous to seek financial assistance from the Consumer Welfare Fund, is required to apply in the prescribed proforma (Form -A) provided in the Rules governing Kerala Consumer Welfare Fund, 2007. The application should be addressed to

The District Consumer Protection Council for the Districts of the State of Kerala under section 8A of the Act shall consist of the following members, namely: -

(a) the Collector of the District who shall be the Chairman;

(b) three members of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, nominated by the Government;

(c) five representatives from the Government Departments and Undertakings concerned, with consumer interests, nominated by the Chairman;

(d) five representatives from the voluntary consumer organizations in the District, nominated by the Chairman, of whom one shall be woman;

The Department of Consumer Affairs in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, is the nodal Department in the Central Government to deal with the various matters related to the protection and welfare of the consumers in the country. In the past it has taken a number of measures like assisting the VCOs to organize workshops, seminars, training programmes, setting up of District Consumer Information Centre in each district, mass awareness programme under Jagriti Shivir Yojna etc. to promote a strong and broad based consumer protection movement in the country.

The Public Distribution System in Kerala is enforced by the State Civil Supplies Department which is under the exclusive charge of the Commissioner of Civil Supplies and Secretary to Government, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department. Under him, there is the Director of Civil Supplies who is the Chief Executive Head of the Department.

The major activities of the Animal Husbandry Department are Veterinary services and Animal Health Care, Disease Eradication Program, Cattle, Goat, Pig, and Poultry Development program, Control of Zoonotic diseases, Extension , Training program for Farmers and Veterinarians and Production of Biologicals.
