Animal Husbandry Department

The major activities of the Animal Husbandry Department are Veterinary services and Animal Health Care, Disease Eradication Program, Cattle, Goat, Pig, and Poultry Development program, Control of Zoonotic diseases, Extension , Training program for Farmers and Veterinarians and Production of Biologicals.

Coir industry

The coir industry, one of the major traditional industries in the State and second only to agriculture as a source of employment in Kerala, provides employment to around 4 lakh persons, of which 84% are women. With 10.05 lakh hectares under coconut cultivation, this accounts for 45% of the net cropped area in the State.

Department of Industries and Commerce

The Industries Department is headed by the Hon'ble Minister (Industries). The administrative head of the Industries Department is the Principal Secretary (Industries & Commerce). The Directorate of Industries Department is located at Vikas Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram, is headed by the Director (Industries & Commerce). This is the functional arm of the Department implementing various industrial activities of the Departments. District Industries Centers are located in all district head quarters.

Educational Schemes for Scheduled Caste Development

Pre-primary education There are 102 nursery schools functioning under the Scheduled Caste Development Department to improve pre-primary education. These schools follow the LKG - UKG system and each student is allotted Rs. 5/per day for food, Rs.200 for uniform, and a lump sum grant of Rs.65/ to purchase study materials.

Kerala Handicrafts

Kerala's traditional handicrafts varieties are a class of its own. The artisans of Kerala carves in wood, design in jewellery and makes idols in metal. The gifted artisans makes beautiful idols of Lord Krishna, Ganesh, Goddess Saraswathi, Lakshmi etc. in sandal wood ,elephants in rose wood and other art works in varieties of other woods. The life size models of Kathakali and the models depicting boat race of Kerala are Kerala's own master pieces. The idols of Lord Nataraja in dancing pose and the various lamps (vilakku) which are very essential for every ceremonies of malayalees.

Kerala State Scheduled Caste Development Schemes

The classes, which are included in Section 341 of the Indian Constitution, are known as Scheduled Castes.  The Central/State Governments have implemented many programmes for the uplift of these sections that are economically, socially, educationally backward.

The Scheduled Caste Development Department works for the uplift of the Scheduled Castes. Under this Department, other eligible castes, other backward classes, and the economically backward forward castes are also given educational aids.

Industries in Kasaragod

Kasaragod district has vast potentials for the establishment of large and medium industries, but the district is at present industrially backward.  There is no major industry here. As per the latest data available, there are 5,759 small scale industrial units in the district.
